I love the contrast between the golden interior and the blue outside :-).

Video sent by terryfreedman
Description of London's Docklands Light Railway, which is a great example of control technology in practice, with driverless trains controlled by a central computer!

I have already uploaded this video to, but I thought I would try this because both dailymotion and youtube provide the facility to post a video as a blog.

I should imagine this could have exciting applications in a school context. For example, imagine being able to (easily) report from a school trip in the form of a daily video blog!

Amazing! These are part of a collection apparently (whatever that means).

The view from West India Quay

Originally uploaded by Terry Freedman.
I was on my home on the Dockland Light Railway this evening after a slightly gruelling day, and wedged in between a load of people going home in the rush hour, but when I saw this view I raced off the train and spent a little while just soaking up the serenity.

The photos (there are a couple of others besides this one) don't really do it justice. After a few minutes, the light had changed, and the moment had gone.

Marylebone Station, London

Originally uploaded by Terry Freedman.
This station was opened in 1899, and I think this picture gives a flavour of the juxtaposition of the old and the new -- not to mention the sheer vibrancy of the place: this photograph was taken at around 9pm!

For a list of other stuff going on in 1899, look right here.

Reading matters

Originally uploaded by Terry Freedman.
I've been preparing for a presentation I'm making in the near-future. As always, I've been doing a lot of reading, listening, scribbling and discussing. Then it all gets churned around in my head, and a presentation emerges in due course.

A taste of Lebanon

Originally uploaded by Terry Freedman.
This is a local Lebanese restaurant. It sells traditional Lebanese dishes and has middle-Eastern-style decor.

But what I find fascinating is the fact that right there, in the middle of all this traditionalism, are these huge screens showing what seems to eb the Egyptian equivalent of MTV!

Terry at work

Originally uploaded by Terry Freedman.
OK, it desn't look like I'm working: I look asleep, I'm dressed in casusal clothes, I've got 'phones on and, above all, I look asleep.

And that is exactly the point. In today's brave new world, work can be listening to a podcast, work can be mobile.

When will schoolkids be allowed to do their assignment in the garden?
