I love the rain, especially when I'm not getting wet from it. And I love the effect in this pic. I achieved it by taking the photo through the windscreen of my car (not while I was driving, you'll be relieved to learn!). The scene is a street near to where I live, late Friday afternoon, at the end of a hard and intensive week. Somehow, this just seems to capture that feeling.

This photo was taken in September 2006. The picture I'm holding was taken on my graduation day for my first degree, in July 1974. Believe it or not, I'd just had my hair cut so I would look more presentable for the ceremony. Erm, no comment. Interestingly enough, there's a picture in the National Gallery in London that looks just like this (well, logically, the converse is more accurate). My mother always thought I looked like the Laughing Cavalier. LOL.

You would never believe that this is in the heart of London. It's about a mile from Canary Wharf, which is a huge finaincial and shopping centre, with great shops (expensive too!). The aircraft take off and land on a single runway which is just to the right of the water you can see on the right-hand side.

I visited Santa Monica recently, and this window display caught my eye. I have no idea what the store was selling, but this just seemed to capture both the frivolity and seriousness of this part of the world.

Description of London's Docklands Light Railway, which is a great example of control technology in practice, with driverless trains controlled by a central computer!

I have already uploaded this video to dailymotion.com, but I thought I would try this because both dailymotion and youtube provide the facility to post a video as a blog.

I should imagine this could have exciting applications in a school context. For example, imagine being able to (easily) report from a school trip in the form of a daily video blog!

I was on my home on the Dockland Light Railway this evening after a slightly gruelling day, and wedged in between a load of people going home in the rush hour, but when I saw this view I raced off the train and spent a little while just soaking up the serenity.

The photos (there are a couple of others besides this one) don't really do it justice. After a few minutes, the light had changed, and the moment had gone.

This station was opened in 1899, and I think this picture gives a flavour of the juxtaposition of the old and the new -- not to mention the sheer vibrancy of the place: this photograph was taken at around 9pm!

This is a local Lebanese restaurant. It sells traditional Lebanese dishes and has middle-Eastern-style decor.

But what I find fascinating is the fact that right there, in the middle of all this traditionalism, are these huge screens showing what seems to eb the Egyptian equivalent of MTV!

And that is exactly the point. In today's brave new world, work can be listening to a podcast, work can be mobile.
